Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles into areas of the body or limbs, it has been shown to reduce pain, relieve muscle spasm and stimulate healing of damaged tissues. It is particularly helpful for some types of low back pain, headaches, knee pain and other conditions such as nausea in pregnancy and menstrual cramps.

What is Western Medical Acupuncture?

The rationale behind the use of Western Medical Acupuncture (WMA) is based on western science. WMA utilises the change of nerve activity in your central nervous system and the production of your body’s own natural pain killers (endorphins) in response to needling. I usually use WMA as part of a package of care which includes manipulation, exercise and education. If you are concerned about having acupuncture or have needle phobia please don’t be put off, it is not compulsory! Your treatment program is tailored to your individual needs and preferences.

I use very high quality Japanese needles which are sterile and single use only. The clinic is fully compliant with local hygiene bylaws and as such is licensed for the practice of Acupuncture by Brighton and Hove City Council. I am one of a very few Osteopaths accredited by the British Medical Acupuncture Society.

If you would like more information on WMA please contact me at the clinic and I will be happy to discuss this further with you.
